Chrisman Competes at Ray-Pec
The William Chrisman boys and girls cross country teams overcame poor and muddy conditions to run well at the Ray-Pec Invitational on Saturday, September 10.
The meet, featuring thirty-plus teams and almost 1,000 total runners (split between Class 4 and Class 1-3 for scoring purposes), featured some of the best teams and runners in the metro area.
Caleb Michell led the way for the varsity boys, which finished 13th, as he finished 32nd individually. Senior Chris Bunce was 52nd and junior Trey Dumas was 70th.
Sophomore Lilly Conner-Urnise finished 48th for the Lady Bears’ varsity, which was 15th as a team. Elizabeth Eppert, a sophomore, took 45 seconds off her time from last week and finished 80th.
Both the JV boys and JV girls also finished 15th. Junior Nick Mendoza finished 107th for the boys and senior Abby Ramirez finished 145th for the girls.
Other key performances included junior Braxton Ward taking off 29 seconds in his first varsity run of the year, junior David Walker improving his personal record by more than a minute and a half for the second straight race, and sophomore Maureen Hennessy producing her best race in her first 5K.
The Bears will run next at the Independence City Championships on Tuesday. The Bears swept the varsity team titles last year with the boys winning their first title since 1975 and the girls’ first since 1989.
